The project includes a widening of Duvall Ave NE to five lanes (including a two-way left-turn lane in the middle) from the Sunset (SR 900)/Duvall Ave NE intersection to the north city limits at NE 23rd Street, and adding curbs, gutters, sidewalks and bicycle lanes on both sides of Duvall Ave NE. The project will also convert overhead power lines to underground lines, adding to the safety and for future protection, especially during storms and emergencies. The project will cost about $15 million and construction began in June 2008.
The City of Renton has closed Duvall Avenue NE to through-traffic between Sunset Blvd. (SR 900) and SE 95th Way. The road will remain closed through approximately July 2009. Local access is available from Sunset Blvd. to SE 107th, but the road will be closed from SE 107th to SE 95th Way. The detour route for traffic will be NE Sunset Boulevard (SR 900) and I-405. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use the detour routes as outlined on the city's project page.
